Curriculum Enrichment

Our Curriculum

Decatur Adventist Junior Academy (DAJA) features project-based learning which keeps the students interested and engaged as they experience hands-on, real-world application of the curriculum. As a School of Excellence with Magnet School Status and a STEAMS School, our students are introduced to various areas of Science through our science lab and science projects. Technology is integrated with the use of iPads and Chromebooks in Grades K – 6 and Macbooks in grades 7 – 8 along with our computer lab. Each classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art Smartboards which are used for daily instruction.  Our robotics club provides the platform for understanding and executing engineering. We provide a wide variety of fine arts options which include drama, praise motion, visual arts, photography, and music. Math is infused throughout the curriculum and we provide AP Math for advanced students.

At DAJA, learning is more than reading, writing, and math. It is a place where students are given the ability to forecast a future, write a vision, and then are guided to walk in the journey of their dreams achieving even more than their parents expected.

With Christ at the center of all that we do, our students are taught core Christian values such as honesty, integrity, perseverance, and self-control. They are taught the most fundamental rule for a peaceful and productive society, which is “do unto others as you would have others do unto you. “

You see, greatness is not something that happens by chance. It is cultivated and harnessed to help our students realize that they are only limited by themselves and the choices they make. Understanding these concepts will propel them to be trailblazers and leaders now and in the future.

For us, it’s about impact. Impact that starts with a little child but whose ripple effect will change the world.

Decatur Adventist Junior Academy. Be there this Fall.

Our Drama Club is known for producing several plays throughout the school year. This includes our annual Christmas play and Black History play.

Praise In Motion helps our students learn to express praise and worship through dance and sign language using different forms of gospel music.

Visual Arts gives our students the opportunity to learn about concrete, abstracts, ceramics and so much more.

This class takes place every Friday and is facilitated by Mrs. Tonisha Jackson.

Our robotics team is under the direction of our new Math and Science teacher Mr. Michael Ross.  The Robotics team will provide an avenue for tomorrow’s innovators to practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Our team will consist of teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8). Each team will apply STEM concepts to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.
