Advanced Placement Math
Dr. Clyde Legall is the teacher of the AP Math Class.
The Advanced Math Class, organized about five years ago, is primarily for students in the 8th Grade who are performing exceptionally well in mathematics. For these students, the purpose is twofold:
1. To provide a challenge to achieve beyond their norm
2. To gain an advantage with regard to receiving credits that can be applied to their high school math requirements.
The Advanced Math students are taken through the entire range of Algebra I topics taught in the ninth grade and are also introduced to a regular program of solving word problems related to various topics.
Past students of the class have testified that because of completing the advanced level courses at DAJA they have been exempted from several required high school math classes and have used the free time gained to register for alternative courses in areas such as science and technology.
